The Smallest Moments, The Biggest Impact: A Year of H.U.N.C.L.E.

There's a question we've been sitting with lately: What does it mean to truly show up for someone?

Not in the transactional senseโ€”not with an agenda or a checklistโ€”but in the way that says, "I see you. Your story matters. You matter."

This year marks our second year of commitment to the H.U.N.C.L.E. programme (Healthy Uncles who Network, drink Coffee, Learn and Exercise), and once again, our OrangeTee family has shown up for all twelve sessions. Session after session, our staff and agents gather at Happy Hawkers @ 201 Kim Tian, sitting alongside elderly uncles aged 50 and above from the Tanjong Pagarโ€“Tiong Bahru areaโ€”not because they have to, but because something deeper calls them there.

Justin Quek, our CEO and Deputy Group CEO of Realion (OrangeTee & ETC) Group, captured why we do this: "We are very happy to be part of this programme because in OrangeTee we believe in giving back. It's not just about helping you to find your place, but it's about helping everybody also to help find their place back in society."

Those words cut to the heart of something profound. In our line of work, we help people find their physical placeโ€”their home, their investment, their space in this world. But what about those who've been pushed to the margins? What about those who feel like they no longer have a place at all?

Our tagline speaks of helping you find your place. But true belonging isn't just about four walls and a roof. It's about being seen. Being valued. Being included. It's about knowing that you still have something to contribute, that your presence still matters, that society hasn't moved on without you.

What made this year's H.U.N.C.L.E. programme special wasn't just the twelve sessionsโ€”it was the consistency of our people showing up to make a real difference. Our staff and agents came together with a shared purpose: to build genuine, lasting relationships with the uncles, to brighten their days by joining in the fun and dynamic activities, to encourage healthy living through exercise and learning, and to provide meaningful support to our aging population. They came back. Again and again. Learning names, sharing laughter, remembering stories from previous sessions, and creating a community where every uncle feels valued and connected.

Throughout the year, many of our agents and staff were present and contributed their time and energy to these sessions. Azan Arifin, our Deputy Branch Associate Director, captured the essence of the experience: "It was truly an eye-opening experience for me. I feel so grateful and happy to be part of something so meaningfulโ€”supporting their activities, listening to their stories, and simply being there. Sometimes, it's the smallest moments that leave the biggest impact."

Andrew Koh, our Senior Associate Director and internationally accredited fitness professional, was another loyal contributor to the programme throughout the year. His reflection echoes this sentiment: "It was heartening to learn and be part of this initiativeโ€”seeing the smiles on the uncles' faces makes it all worthwhile. It's a purpose-driven effort to educate and empower our seniors. It's efforts like these that build a more caring and inclusive communityโ€”and there's always room for more to join in."

Here's what we've learned from twelve sessions: volunteering isn't charity. It's an exchange. Our volunteers don't just giveโ€”they receive perspective, gratitude, stories, and the profound gift of being needed, not for what they can produce, but simply for being human and showing up.

For our volunteers, sitting with someone who's seen Singapore transform over decades, who remembers what came before the skyscrapers and MRT lines, provides a humility and gratitude that can't be taught in any training room. It reminds us why we're hereโ€”not just to build successful careers, but to contribute to a society where everyone has a place.

The work isn't done. But that's what drives us forwardโ€”knowing there are always more opportunities to serve, more communities to support, and more ways to give back. As we look to the years ahead, we remain committed to continuing our community work and contributing meaningfully to society.

Here's to making a difference, together.
